This weekend, things took an unexpected turn. I was considering a special gluten free dish to bring our July-long Pepper Party to a close. Now I've got something even hotter! Did you happen to catch the Twitter exchange between my friend, Dale and me? Saturday, I mentioned a national cooking contest sponsored by Bob’s Red Mill. Dale Walker saw the Tweet. He challenged me to enter the contest with a twist! You know I can’t turn down a culinary showdown. I had no choice but to Spar for the Spurtle! My task for the contest was to create a unique dish featuring Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats that could be prepared in less than 30 minutes. The entry would be a 3-minute video highlighting the recipe. Dale's twist? He was giving me one chance, start to finish, to cook my new dish in HIS kitchen, where I had never cooked! Thirty minutes is all I would have. NO room for error! Could I do it?? The wager: Loser buys dinner at one of Atlanta's premier restos! To come up with a recipe, I did have to think a little. I had never used steel cut oats outside of making traditional breakfast porridge. I wanted to create something original that featured the oats (not just a topping for them). I also wanted it to be easy... because you know we love easy! No problem... that cowboy wouldn't outdo me! Spurtle in hand, I showed up at Dale’s place and rocked out a savory main dish in under 30 minutes... I even had a minute to spare! Dale was crushed. He finally admitted he'd be asking for my Herbed Oregon Cranberry Slow Simmer Ris-oat-o again! As promised, he also helped put together the video for the contest... WARNING: This is not your typical "cooking show". This is a rare peek at how we do cooking on GlutenFreeGigi.com! Here's my video entry for Bob’s Red Mill "Spar for the Spurtle"! As always, I’ve kept it simple (only 5 ingredients!) and healthy... and always gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and nut free. Don't miss it and, so Bob's judges know, please "Like" it if you do! xo, Gluten Free Gigi P.S. If you want to see more, the UNEDITED, full-length version (including, yes, the blowing bubbles part!) is available on my NEW Gluten Free Gigi YouTube channel! If you watch it, also make sure to go to Bob's site and like the short version there too! Thanks... and look for more Gluten Free Gigi videos to come! 2 Comments |
