Saturday’s Atlanta Gluten-Free Vendor Fair (sponsored by the Atlanta Metro Celiacs support group) was such a positive (and tasty) experience! Although this event is in its fourth year, this was my first year in attendance, and even with lingering pain from recent dental surgery, I was elated to be there! With an abundance of gluten-free and allergy-friendly foods to sample, I recognized many of my favorite gluten free products; however, it was more often the case that I found myself tempted by a new product to try. So much good food under one roof – sheer delight! And in case you were wondering, the vendors that I met were as lovely as their products. Not surprising considering the care and dedication these folks put into crafting healthy, safe items for the rest of us. I managed to snap quite a few pictures, which I’ll be sharing here soon along with some other products showcased at the event, but today, I want to share with you my review of one “stand-out” product that captured my attention. I almost missed Rebecca & Devyn’s Gluten Free To Go, but fortunately, as we were leaving, their table full of allergy friendly snack packs caught my eye!

Rebecca & Devyn’s Gluten Free To Go offers a selection of 4 different snack packs that contain gluten free and allergy friendly treats and are designed to provide a “convenient pack you can take anywhere”. Each 11 x 7-inch (approx.) clear plastic package contains 4 snack items and an organic peppermint candy (I love that!). The individual snacks in each package are some of the top gluten free and allergy friendly products on the market. The concept and the look of this product is fabulous, so I was thrilled when Rebecca and Devyn asked if I would do a product review for them. They gave me 1 of each type of snack pack to try. I really wanted to determine if this product had the full-on convenience factor that I know consumers are looking for, so I couldn’t simply sit down and begin snacking (except in the case of maybe some cookies – I am only human). I had to see if these snack packs could provide the convenience needed by so many of us who are always on the go.  So how did this product measure up?

I was able to find out right away. The day after the vendor fair in Atlanta, we had an early morning trip to South Carolina. I was not quite ready for breakfast before leaving, so I decided to grab a snack pack and do a little research while driving. I chose the "At The Park" pack (snickerdoodles are a major weakness) and off we went. About an hour into our journey, I was ready to tear into my snack pack, and was surprised by the generous portions of its contents. I wasn’t able to finish everything, and was wondering how I would keep the crunchy dried fruits crisp for later, when I realized the packs have zipper tops so they can be resealed – brilliant! I saved the remaining snacks for the drive home and they were just as fresh as when I first opened them. My family and I began brainstorming all the places we could take these grab-and-go packs. My first thought was how nice it would be to have a healthy safe snack when I have back-to-back students for tutoring at the library. And hiking – these are perfect – at just over 4 ounces each, they won’t weigh down a pack, but will keep hunger in check. Oh, and how about a healthy snack for the drive home from the track or the gym? And with a shelf-life of up to 9 months on some packs, I am adding one to the first aid kit in my car  (if I’m hungry, grid-lock traffic becomes an “emergency”).

Because I am unable to eat soy, I had to enlist the help of my daughters (2 of the packs have items that contain soy, 2 are totally soy free – all packs are clearly labeled). My 17-year-old pointed out that these would be excellent for younger children in the car because they are “completely non-messy”. Good point. We also liked that these are products with which we are familiar; we know what to expect in terms of quality and taste. Another bonus? The dried fruits offered in 2 of the packs are equivalent to a half cup serving of fruit, and none of the items have excessive fat or calorie counts.

All in all, Rebecca & Devyn’s Gluten Free To Go snack packs are a delicious worry-free way to snack. And as for the convenience factor – yes, they do measure up!

These are great, Gigi! Thanks for sharing about them! They'll be super for family road trips, and they are so reasonably priced. I ordered a box of the In the City packs. Now to find a secret hiding place so they will be saved for those trips . . . ;-)
