Over 20 GF options to help you jazz up your next meal!
You already know that I don't stock a pantry full of "quick to fix" mixes, but lately, some excellent gluten-free options have come to my attention, and I can't help but share them with you!
When I was contacted by Zatarain's asking if I would conduct a review of their gluten-free rice mixes, I thought, why not? I love incorporating rice into my meals (see my Warm Rice Pudding, Coconut Rice, Slow Cooker Curry Lentils & Rice, and Vegan Burger Patties). And who doesn't want to save a little time in the kitchen, especially with a summer full of activities on the way?

I was told by my contact at Zatarain's that their New Orleans-style favorites like Jambalaya, Dirty Rice, and Yellow Rice, are still the same flavorful products they've always been, but will soon feature an on-pack gluten-free seal, providing an easy, at-a-glance way for consumers to identify these products.

So, I told him, send them my way, right? Not exactly. Before accepting products that I plan to share with you, I always ask questions to insure that what we are getting is safe and certified. (Remember the Gluten-free Food Labeling Summit? It's a BIG deal!)

My questions to Zatarain's regarding the gluten-free labeling:

GFGigi: Is Zatarain's gluten-free labeling an in-house designation, or are the produts being labeled as gluten-free tested and certified?

Zatarain's: No, the gluten-free seal is not an in-house designation. We've been testing over the past several months and are certified gluten-free by the widely recognized Food Allergy Research and Resource Program (FARRP) at the University of Nebraska.

GFGigi: What about groups specifically targeting those with Celiac Disease, are you working with any of them?

Zatarain's: We also partnered with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) for a recipe box showcasing all the delicious gluten-free meals we've developed. (You can find those HERE.)

Being very familiar with both organizations noted above, I felt comfortable sharing these products with you.

And the nice folks at Zatarain's are so excited about embracing the gluten-free community that they asked me to host a GIVEAWAY! One lucky reader will receive 3 boxes of Zatarain's gluten-free rice mixes (Jambalaya, Dirty Rice, and Yellow Rice). The giveaway details are at the end of this post...but first, let me give you a peek at how simply delish these mixes are!

Simply add water and oil to the mix, and dinner's on its way!

You'll be seeing the other two mixes show up on my dinner table next week, but last night I made the Jambalaya for dinner. This is a favorite dish of Mr. GFGigi, so he was my chief taste-tester.

Chock full of veggies and authentic New Orleans flavor, the Jambalaya mix was such snap to prepare, heck, it felt like the Big Easy! Prepare it as-is, or toss in your choice of chicken, sausages, or shrimp, and dinner is done!

I can't wait to try the Yellow Rice and Dirty Rice next week! What will I do with all the time these mixes are going to save me in the kitchen? Maybe make Bananas Foster to get my N'awlins on!

To enter, leave a comment below telling me how you'll get your N'awlins on with Zatarain's Rice Mixes if you win.
