We talk a lot here about balance. More often than not, my advice to you focuses on food. But if you’ve ever talked to me in person, you know food isn’t always the first aspect of balanced living I mention.
To me, balance is about all aspects of mind, body and spirit, gently flowing in tune, one with another. In fact, my science background is rooted in the mind-body connection.
Achieving balance in life is just like anything else worth having – it requires consistent positive effort and time investment. There’s no secret trick or expensive therapy. You simply have to want a grounded, balanced life, and it is yours!
If you’re after more balance in your life, here are a few of the tactics I use every day. For me, these daily rituals lay a strong foundation for positive life balance. They may seem like small acts, but I assure you, the additive effect is tremendous. Once you incorporate (your own version of) these into your daily routine, they will become habit. Then, life will slip into the balanced groove you desire.
Gigi’s 7 Daily Rituals for Life Balance
1 – Begin with gratitude.
Each morning as soon as I wake, the very first thing I do is take time to say “thank you” to the Universe. I express gratitude for waking up, for my healthy body, for my family, and for life! It sets the tone for the day.
2 – Stretch the body.
Next, while still in bed, I stretch every muscle in my body with calm awareness. Nothing fancy here, just free-from stretches to send blood through the body and to stimulate the muscles. We ask our body to support us all day long, it seems right to take some time to allow it to come to life in the morning before the day’s activities begin.
3 – Stretch the mind.
Just like the body deserves some time to come to life, so does the mind. I meditate daily and think of it as “mind stretching”. Let go of any thoughts, baggage, or worry and allow your mind to awaken and realize its potential.
4 – Yoga.
My late in the afternoon ritual is yoga. This is about so much more than exercise and sometimes-cumbersome positions. Yoga is about breath, about connecting to self and about learning about your body and your mind. This is a great way to shake off the day!
5 – Play.
I roll on the floor, play with my pets, blow bubbles with my teenager, and yes, sometimes I even skip! Why do we stop playing just because the number of our age makes us thing we should not? We should always play! It gives the mind freedom, allows the body to move in an unstructured way, and I believe, for the two to meet somehow.
6 – Set time for self.
I love spending time with my family and friends, but sometimes I also love to spend time with me. I like to check in, explore my thoughts, remind myself of what I like doing, what I don’t like doing, and assess how things are going in my life. This is a huge grounding factor that I recommend doing for at least 20 minutes every day.
7 – Make life pretty.
I look forward to regular manicures with my daughter and pedicures with Dreamy. My monthly massage and facial help me feel vibrant! I like cute dresses and fancy shoes! I also love to see pretty things all around me in my home. We keep fresh flowers in the house at all times and all of us adore pleasantly scented candles. We keep candles in every room and light at least some of them every day. It feels lavish and indulgent, and yes, it makes the house a little prettier.

When I lit the Peace & Tranquility candle, the cashmere jasmine fragrance was so clean and airy with hints of lily of the valley and bergamot. Floral notes like jasmine, cotton blossom and rose are present and pair perfectly with the essential oils of ylang ylang, lemon and cedarwood.
Even the pure white frosted glass evokes tranquility. I could just sit and watch this candle glow during some of my “me” time.
Because these are soy wax blend candles with lead-free cotton wicks, you get a clean burn and no messy bits of wick left behind. That’s especially important to me because I love placing theme-appropriate candles in our guest room. With a Florida Keys coastal vibe, the Reflection & Clarity candle is a must in this room!
The sea salt sage fragrance clears the air and reminds me of early mornings by the bay. Natural essential oils of orange, chamomile, lavender, laurel, patchouli and tea allow for quiet contemplation. Colors of the sky and the sea present in the frosted blue jar have an instant calming effect.
