If you’re like me, you’re already starting to think about how you can enjoy the holiday season without packing on those extra pounds or spiking your blood sugar sky-high. If you’ve been following along here for a while, you know my philosophy of enjoying all the foods we love with whole body balance and moderation. Eating healthy doesn’t mean we must forego our favorite foods! Keeping Fit & Fabulous During the Holidays without Sacrifice is the name of the game!
Keeping Fit & Fabulous During the Holidays without Sacrifice
The key is to satisfy our cravings for those holiday flavors we love so much and can’t live without this time of year – apple pie, pumpkin pie, rich decadent desserts like truffles, and the list goes on.
There is certainly room for a slice of your favorite pie (like my gluten-free pumpkin pie with homemade crust!) on your dessert plate after that special holiday meal, but pie everyday? No.
Instead, give yourself a taste of the holidays with smarter choices that will nourish and fuel your body and keep you feeling fit and fabulous for all the holiday festivities.
Some of the ways I do this is with a daily yoga session, lots of long walks and stretching, but I also incorporate deliciously healthy treats into my days.
One example is my Healthy Pumpkin Protein Smoothie.
We love making these on weekend mornings and enjoying them while we chat over plans for the day. It’s like having dessert for breakfast, but it’s nothing but pure goodness to power us through a fun, busy holiday season!
This recipe is free from gluten, dairy, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, added sugar, grains.
1 very ripe banana (I use a frozen banana cut into chunks.)
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 pouch Aloha Vanilla Protein
Enough unsweetened coconut milk (or liquid of your choice) to thin to desired consistency
Ground cinnamon, to taste
Combine banana, pumpkin, protein powder in blender, then add milk to achieve desired consistency.
Pour into 2 glasses, sprinkle cinnamon on top and serve.
There’s absolutely NOTHING artificial in Aloha Protein Powder, and it packs a serious energizing punch! Dreamy loves this stuff – he says a smoothie made with it keeps him full for up to 5 hours! That’s impressive, but considering the ingredients, not surprising.
With protein from peas, hemp and pumpkin seeds along with other pure ingredients, a pouch of this will rev up your metabolism, keep you full til your next meal and if you make seasonal creations like our pumpkin smoothie, satisfy those holiday sweets cravings, too!
Grab a tower of these pouches to keep you going throughout the holidays and give this smoothie recipe a try, or create some new flavors of your own! Let me know how you love it!!
PS – there’s also chocolate protein powder that we can’t live without! I’ll share recipes for it soon. :)
